The 10-Step Roblox Safety Checklist
Use this checklist to secure your child’s Roblox account in under 15 minutes. Each step links to our detailed guide for more information.
Account Security
- Enable 2-Step Verification — Go to Settings > Security > 2-Step Verification. Use an authenticator app (not email) for strongest protection.
- Set a strong, unique password — At least 12 characters with mixed case, numbers, and symbols. Never reuse passwords from other sites.
- Verify your child’s age — Roblox now uses facial age estimation. Ensure your child’s account reflects their real age for appropriate content filtering.
Privacy Settings
- Review Privacy Settings — Go to Settings > Privacy. For children under 13, set all options to “No one” or “Friends” instead of “Everyone.”
- Disable chat for young children — Under Privacy settings, you can restrict or turn off in-game chat entirely.
- Set Account Restrictions — Enable Account Restrictions to limit your child to a curated list of age-appropriate experiences.
Financial Controls
- Set spending limits — Use the Parent Dashboard to set daily/monthly Robux spending caps. We recommend starting with a weekly allowance.
- Remove saved payment methods — Go to your Roblox billing settings and remove any credit cards. Use gift cards instead for controlled spending.
Monitoring
- Set up the Parent Dashboard — Visit roblox.com/my/account#!/parental-controls to access remote monitoring and controls.
- Configure screen time limits — Set daily play time limits. Roblox enforces these at the platform level across all games.
Red Flags to Watch For
Teach your child to recognize these warning signs:
| Red Flag | What It Means |
|---|---|
| “Free Robux” websites or links | Always a scam — Roblox never gives free Robux externally |
| Someone asking for their password | No legitimate person ever needs your password |
| Requests to move to Discord/other apps | Predators often try to move conversations off-platform |
| Offers that seem too good to be true | Item duplication, free limiteds = scams |
| Someone asking personal questions | Name, school, location, age = danger |
Recommended Spending Limits by Age
| Age Group | Suggested Monthly Limit | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Under 9 | $0–5 (or gift cards only) | Parent should approve each purchase |
| 9–12 | $5–15 | Weekly allowance system recommended |
| 13–15 | $10–25 | Teach budgeting and value assessment |
| 16+ | $15–50 | Encourage earning through game creation |

FAQ
How long does it take to set up Roblox parental controls? Following this checklist, most parents can fully secure their child’s Roblox account in 10–15 minutes. The Parent Dashboard setup takes the longest at about 5 minutes.
Can my child bypass parental controls on Roblox? Roblox’s parental controls are enforced at the platform level, making them difficult to bypass. Screen time limits, chat restrictions, and spending controls apply across all experiences. However, a determined teen could create a new account, so open communication is also important.
What age is Roblox appropriate for? Roblox is rated E10+ (Everyone 10 and older) by the ESRB. With proper parental controls configured, children as young as 7–8 can safely enjoy age-appropriate experiences. We recommend active supervision for children under 10.
Does Roblox share my child’s personal information? Roblox does not share personal information with other users. Chat filters automatically block attempts to share phone numbers, addresses, and full names. Facial age verification data is processed by a third party (Persona) and deleted immediately after verification.
